Alternatives…

I had an interesting idea while I was working on the I.S.S. Enterprise. Write an “alternate” version of TMP, but with the Terran Empire instead of the Federation as the protagonists. The plot could be basically the same, with an unknown cloud heading towards Earth, destroying everything in its path. However, how would the Empire handle this situation? I’m thinking they would try to capture it, to possess the technology themselves. Anyway, that’s the kind of silly stuff I think up. πŸ˜‰

  1. How long ago did the Mirror universe begin? Would NASA have launched Voyager in the first place?

Let’s assume the changes to our history happened after that.

If V’ger did come back to Earth, I bet the Terran Empire just attacks it. And if that’s the case, I think V’ger would just vaporize any opposition.

    • According to Cpt. Archer, the Terran Empire had been around for “centuries” by the year 2155. Is that accurate? It’s hard to say. There’s never been a firm “beginning” time set for the Empire on the shows. One of the novels traces its beginnings to an “alternative” created by the Borg’s interference with First Contact in 2063. (that’s an interesting thought) Others trace it back to an alternate ending of the Earth-Romulan war, but that is debunked by the fact that it existed in the early part of the 2150s on Enterprise. As for what we know, that’s limited. In the alternate opening sequence for that episode, they did show an astronaut planting an TE flag on the moon. Though, there’s no solid evidence that that happened at the same time as the moon landings in the 1960s. It could have been much later and the TE could have been asserting its “reign” on the solar system.

As for whether or not the probe would be launched, an Empire that thrives on conquest is bound to send out probes into space to find out what’s out there. So, I don’t see an issue with a probe being launched in the first place. Maybe not by NASA.

I believe that the Empire’s first reaction would be to attack, as it was for the Klingons in TMP. However, say they attack with a fleet of warships and V’Ger wipes them out. Their next thought would be, “if that thing can destroy our ships so easily, we need that power.” So, they’d try to sieze it.

      Like I said, it’s a silly idea I came up with. πŸ˜‰

    • I agree. And I’ve pondered about this as well.

We all saw how V’Ger reacted to acts of aggression against it.

I also agree the Terran Imperial Starfleet would attempt to capture it, upon seeing how powerful V’Ger is. Emphasis on ‘try’.

The way I see, besides Spock convincing Kirk to somehow unlock V’Ger’s mystery, Earth in this case in toast.
