WIP 04: USS Challenger Update

I added some textures and some lights.  I think I’m almost done with this thing.

  1. Hi- Nice little ship you have here. I’m certain I’ve seen it somewhere though. Are you on Trek BBS?

Im just curious what the design logic was, merging the Constellation class type upper nacelle pylon support structure with a predominately Constitution Class super-structure?

It looks to me, that in the even of a separation, you’d have warp capabilities in the primary hull- does this mean your engineering is in there as well?

Sorry if I’m asking too much here- just curious.

    • First, thanks. Both for the compliments and for taking the time to comment. (and you can never ask too many questions. ;))

And, no, I’ve never been to Trek BBS. As for the design, I’m not sure what the logic is. I found it on the internet and modeled it. However, I like stuff to make sense so this is what I’ve kinda worked out on my own:

Engineering would have to be in the saucer. Otherwise, you’ve go that many more meters of warp transfer conduits running through the thin main pylon and that can spell disaster, IMO. However, this does free up the secondary hull for other things like extra crew quarters, science labs, cargo bays, whatever. I like to think this could be a research vessel with lots of science labs in that section. As far as separation, I didn’t even bother giving it that capability because of the saucer engineering section. I figure the crew would just have to abandon ship in the event of a core breech.

Anywho, that’s my thoughts on this. Thanks for the comments. 😀
